DIGITAL
LITERACY

Did you know that…

… based on EU’s Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) overall index for 2020, Greece is significantly lagging behind the European Union countries, ranking 27th?

… 34% of Greeks say they have one password for most or all online accounts, while 11% say they have never changed their password?

… some 82% of US middle-schoolers cannot distinguish between an ad labeled “sponsored content” and a real news story on a website?

… around 40% of Americans under 30 have experienced online harassment?

Long before the World Health Organization declared an international health crisis in 2020, our lives were already moving increasingly online. But after the pandemic struck and as the “real world” was closing its doors around us, we were all forced to accelerate our adoption of digital technologies. Digital natives, i.e., people who were born or brought up during the age of digital technology, who are familiar with computers and the internet from an early age, found themselves relying more on the technology they were using already. Digital immigrants, people who were born before the digital revolution or who only started accessing digital technologies as adults, on the other hand, had to play catch-up and quickly gain fluency with unfamiliar technologies. Meanwhile, online fraud and scams have become more widespread and sophisticated, necessitating all digital users to hone their digital critical-thinking abilities. In this increasingly digital world, digital literacy has become indispensable for every global citizen, whether to receive education, work or find employment, shop, communicate, or socialize.

At ERGO.Academy, we design, develop and implement programs that help participants to:

  • learn the basics of online safety, privacy, and security, understand the concepts of digital footprint and digital identity, and get introduced to netiquette

  • learn to recognize abusive, cruel, and hateful online behaviors, what to do if bullied online, and how to be an upstander and ally for others who are bullied
